WHAT DO WE ACCOMPLISH THIS WITH STAGE 1 TUNING?

  • Extensive research and development has allowed us to make more power with this platform.  Not only are we making more power but we are also revising ECU tables to make the bike safer and more reliable for those long trips where having issues isn't an option.
  • The feedback and biggest gripes were no throttle response and low top speed limit stock.  Easily solved!
  • We left no stone unturned in our Stage 1 development and spent hours, days, and months to perfect with R&D.
  • The air/fuel ratio has been carefully measured in testing with the other changes we've made optimizes your K1600 for peak performance and reliability.
  • The K1600 has an active ignition map.  The point to this is to ensure your bike runs at peak performance and reliability, even when bad fuel is present. Bad fuel would be defined as a fuel that has lower than advertised octane, old fuel that's been sitting in the bike that has now going bad, or a forgetful user that just pumped incorrect octane fuel at the gas station. With our extensive R&D process we've been able to optimize the ignition map to not only add more power to your K1600, but also make sure that if bad fuel is present, the motorcycle will still maintain it's reliability.
  • With the changes in fueling and ignition, there is a noticeable difference in keeping the bike cooler and more consistent with power.
  • Torque limit tables in dynamic mode have all been raised to give you maximum performance.
  • Expect large increases in low-end and mid-range throttle response through 100% direct throttle opening in different riding mode.

WHY IS THIS THE BEST UPGRADE YOU CAN BUY?

The biggest complaints from owners revolved around the pitiful throttle response and of course, the terribly restrictive top speed limiter (GA especially which we found to be around 105MPH). First we baselined the motorcycle in 100% stock ECU form, the motorcycle we used for testing has around 8,000 miles and was well broken in. In stock configuration we found all the talk of poor throttle was spot on, we also found the bike hit the speed limiter in the top of 3rd gear, with 3 more gears to go — frustrating to say the least, especially on a bike of this nature. The power flattened out and the motor was very rich and under-timed.With or without custom mapping, we all know the BMW K1600 is a wonderful bike that's amazing for touring! We also know it isn’t perfect. Issues that we’ve verified ourselves and what customers have reported include the following:

  • Bad throttle response, especially of the line
  • Top speed limiter at 105 MPH (GA and others, NON GT)
  • Under-timed engine that may feel lazy when power is needed

WHAT DID WE DO ABOUT THIS?

After months of testing we have had successfully calibrated our in-house test bike, a 2018 K1600B Grand America. As of Feb 2024 we have tuned over 2000 K1600's world wide! This calibration will work for all B/GA/GT/GTL bikes as the ECU’s are the same with minor differences between them.  We have also tested our mapping on the road while logging all parameters of the bike to ensure reliability and consistency.  So what did we change?

  • Improved throttle response! Throttle tables maximized to provide a snappier and more responsive throttle (see below for throttle table details).
  • Top speed limiter removed. No more 105 MPH limit. We tested our own K1600 all the way to 170 MPH on our in-house dynometer.
  • HP gains of +18HP with a climbing HP curve from 5000RPM to redline - we did this by modifying the throttle which is stuck at a limited opening in factory configuration; with light changes to ignition timing and torque, along with other tables that have proven to work great in the BMW tuning world.
  • Ignition advanced with safety in mind. We have altered these maps to give you maximum power. We also have safety built in. If your bike detects a lower octane fuel or fuel that may be bad out of the pump, our mapping will pull power out of the bike until it gets quality fuel.
  • With our handheld tuner we can configure and maximize mapping with the ability to go back to your stock mapping if you need to go to the dealer for servicing.

**All riding modes still work as designed and all will have the throttle improvements that we have implemented. Dynamic mode will still be what you want to use for maximum performance and power.**

As you can see in the software screenshots below, the K1600 ECU is only commanding a fraction of what the engine is capable of outputting.  Our flash completely eliminates those restrictions without compromising rideability or the reliability of your motorcycle. My bike is back TY

Bought my 2018 GA from a dealer with it already Tuned. Sent bike in to BMW for the 25,000 service and they decided without my permission re-flash my bike to BMWs default. Could not get the Tuner from the dealer I bought the bike from.(they did try to find it). So now I have a stock 2018 GA and it SUCKS. So bought New tune from BT-Moto and OMG I forgot how nice my bagger was before it went in for service. Bike runs great had it to 161 and had a lot left to go. As for the complaints I see about the stability of these motorcycles, Change out the windshield. Instability comes from the Stock windshield. Have taken my hands off at over 130 with no issues.

Totally different bike

Have a 2019 BMW K1600GTL. Tune is amazing. Totally changes the feel of the bike and "wakes it up". Service from the team at BT Moto is first rate. Very responsive, answered any questions I had working through an updated reflash when my dealer updated the ECU when it was in for Service. Really appreciate their support. Highly recommended!!! Thanks BT Moto team!!!

Fantastic

Made me love my K1600 Again

Coming from a 2013 K1600, my new to me 2019 K1600 was like a space ship. Lots of nice trinkets and features that are more than I'll ever need. However, it lacked the spunk that my K1300 did. Off the line it was completely dead and require a lot of throttle and clutch work to get out of the hole. I asked about this on the forums as my 13 K1600 wasn't like this at all. I was told that all the 2017 and newer K1600's were like this. I was annoyed to say the least. Thankfully one forum member linked me to BT Moto's website which showcased a handheld tuner tool that was supposed to fix it. I called and talked to Chris who ensured me it would do what I wanted and was easy to use. I ordered it that same day after looking at some other reviews and youtube videos. I had to have my grandson come over and work the computer part of this for me as I'm not great with emails and downloads, but he made quick work of it and had it all figured out in less than a half hour. Once I loaded the tune in I knew it was the right decision. It was as good or better than my 2013 model which is all that I could ask for. It also ran cooler and I tested the top speed and got beyond the 100mph stock speed limiter without trouble. Glad they could fix this bike as I was considering going back to the dealer and asking for my 2013 back.
